Network Engineer

The Network Engineer is responsible for supporting and managing the systems, networks, telephones and other infrastructure critical to the day to day operations. Daily services include the design, configuration, administration, support and maintenance of switches, routers and wireless equipment as well as other network infrastructure and application components. Systems include: network switching and routing, network security, IP based telephone systems, DNS, network security, Internet, Intranet or any other network related systems required.

Working with direction from IT leadership, the Network Engineer is also responsible for the documentation of network infrastructure configurations and processes as well monitoring critical network services and processes. Installs new software releases, performs system upgrades and troubleshoots and resolves software/hardware related problems. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures for network administration and security best practices. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Work with other infrastructure manager or other technical managers to define daily work tasks. Creativity and independent drive is required.

Essential Duties

  • Assists with policy and procedure maintenance
  • Router and Switch configurations
  • Firewall Configuration/Maintenance
  • Telephone configuration and administration
  • Customer VPN configuration and support
  • FTP processes
  • Team with telecom provider to design WAN topology to fit business needs
  • Implements complex local and wide-area networks
  • Assists in Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • Evaluates and/or recommends purchases; has strong influence on purchasing process.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 5 years of networking experience
  • Working knowledge of enterprise tools and principles (service desk ticketing, change control, security practices, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge and skills in the following areas:
  • 5+ years Switches, Routers and Firewalls
  • Demonstrated ability to create documentation and diagrams necessary to proactively implement, maintain and monitor and enterprise WAN architecture
  • Extensive knowledge with TCP/IP protocols and principles
  • Network system information security tools and principles
  • Project Management Methodologies
  • Understands urgency and has the ability to prioritize tasks and projects appropriately
  • Analytical, conceptual and progressive thinker; organized planner
  • Ability to assess needs, processes and systems
  • Ability to integrate needs and solutions into a comprehensive system and structure
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with management
  • Independent problem-solving, self-direction
  • Familiarity with IP and/or Cloud based telephone system concepts and administration
  • Provide management and oversight for internet and external DNS
  • Advanced knowledge of network design, router and switch configurations
  • Understanding of data security, HIPAA data privacy regulations
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Qualification Standards
BA/BS in Information Systems, Computer Science and/or other combination of education, training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required tasks

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in enterprise network environment
  • Minimum of 5 years administration experience with Switches, Routers and Firewalls
  • Minimum of 3 years design experience with LAN/WAN environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of administration with an IP or cloud based Telephone platform

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of network equipment hardware and configurations
  • Design and administration experience with Internet service providers and firewall devices
  • Certification: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Certification: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Certification: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Certification: IP Based Telephone Platform (Avaya, Cisco, ShoreTel, etc.)
  • ITIL Certifications
